Abstract:
In the first part of my talk I will review mirror symmetry approach to algebraic geometry.
Then I will review a new approach to degenerations of a variety by the mirror symmetry,
show how toric degenerations become special birational symplectomorphisms in the mirror,
how to construct these special birational transformations and hence to predict the degenerations.
